Data Stewards Committee
The Data Stewards Committee serves to promote coordination, consistency and shared understanding among data stewards with respect to their responsibilities and data governance activities. The group provides a forum for data stewards to be informed on best practices, training, tools and common issues and to promote discussion for managing data effectively and ensuring university data assets are well-managed, secure and aligned with strategic goals. The Data Stewards Committee escalates issues to and advises the Data Governance Council as needed. Members include data stewards with support and facilitation by the UDA Data Governance Team.
Committee Goals and Objectives
- Ensuring the accuracy, consistency and reliability of data across the university
- Promoting and ensuring the security and appropriate usage of university data
- Supporting Data Stewards in meeting their specific responsibilities as set out by university Policies, Regulations and Rules
- Engaging with and supporting University Data Governance Program activities and initiatives
- Promoting awareness and implementation of policies, processes, standards, tools, guidelines and best practices set by the Data Governance Program
- Coordinating and resolving data stewardship-related issues that cross multiple data domains
- Utilizing group decision making for subjects or issues requiring a formal determination or recommendation
- Identifying and escalating data-related issues and concerns to the Data Governance Council as appropriate
Executive Subcommittee of the Data Stewards Committee
Additionally, the Data Stewards Committee has charged an Executive Subcommittee of the Data Stewards Committee (ES-DSC). The mission of the ES-DSC is to support, augment the work and increase the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the full Data Stewards Committee in its objectives to promote coordination, consistency and shared understanding among data stewards and delegates with respect to their responsibilities for the confidentiality, integrity and availability of university data.
Executive Subcommittee Goals and Objectives
- Acting on behalf of the full Data Stewards Committee to address time-sensitive data related decisions
- Deliberating on data and analytics subjects focused on a limited subset of data domains
- Assisting with the development of draft processes, standards, guidelines and recommendations that will be sent to the full Data Stewards Committee for approval
- Allowing for preliminary discussion as well as providing feedback and recommendations on topics to consider for the full Data Stewards Committee meetings or the Data Governance Program as a whole
- Providing a forum for data issue resolution and escalation in cases where the impact is limited in the number of data domains it affects, and the relevant subset of data stewards are present either as members or guests to discuss those issues
