Data Custodians

Data Custodians are responsible for verifying that all compliance and operational requirements are met by the current data security controls for the relevant university data environment, system of record, application, software or tool. The data custodian is a non-fixed role and applies only in cases where those employees are identified and designated by data stewards or data managers to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities.

Responsibilities assigned to data custodians may include:

  • Ensuring that all data protection controls required by the university are planned, implemented supported and tested
  • Supporting data stewards and data managers in fulfilling their data governance related responsibilities
